What a gas furnace installation actually involves
We start by measuring the heat load of your house, not by copying the BTU rating off the old data plate. Houses get new windows, added insulation and finished attic space, and the old sizing is often wrong. Then we pull the existing unit, check the gas line and shutoff, look at the flue or vent run, set the new furnace level, connect gas and electrical, tie in the condensate if it is a condensing model, and fire it up while we read temperature rise and static pressure.
What we check and what we install
Ductwork gets looked at before anything is ordered. Undersized returns are common in 1990s subdivisions across the region, and a new furnace pushed through a starved return will run hot and noisy. We check the return area, supply runs, filter location, thermostat wiring, and the vent for proper slope and clearance. We install the furnace, new flexible gas connector and drip leg, transition plenums where needed, a filter rack that is actually reachable, and a thermostat that matches the staging on the new unit.
How we decide replacement is the right call
A cracked heat exchanger or a failed control that costs more than the remaining life of the furnace usually points to replacement. So does a unit that has been repaired three winters running, or one where parts are no longer available. If the furnace is sound and the problem is a igniter, flame sensor, gas valve or blower motor, we say so and handle it as a furnace repair instead. Before we get there, check the thermostat batteries and settings, look for a tripped breaker, and change the filter.

Can a gas furnace share the same ductwork as my old one?
Often yes, but only after we measure it. If the return is undersized or supply runs are crushed, we correct that during installation. Reusing bad duct on a new furnace shortens its life and makes rooms uneven.
Will a new gas furnace need a different vent?
Sometimes. High efficiency condensing furnaces vent through PVC out a sidewall and need a condensate drain, while older style units use a metal flue. We confirm which route your home allows before installing anything.
Do you replace the AC coil at the same time?
We look at it. The indoor coil sits in the same cabinet stack, so if it is aging or leaking, doing both at once avoids opening the system twice. We will tell you either way.
