What a leaky duct diagnosis involves
We start inside the house, checking room-by-room airflow at the registers and comparing it against what the system should be delivering. Then we go where the ducts live, usually the attic, and follow each run from the air handler out. We look at joints, boots, plenum takeoffs and the return side, which leaks more often than people expect. Depending on the system we may pressurise the duct work to measure total leakage. You get a written picture of where the air is going.
What we check and what we find
Common finds are separated flex duct at a takeoff, boots that were never sealed to the ceiling drywall, crushed runs pinned under stored boxes and old cloth tape that gave up years ago. We check return sizing too, because an undersized return pulls attic air through every gap it can find. We inspect insulation on the duct jacket for condensation damage. If the leak is at the plenum or the air handler cabinet, we note that separately since the fix is different.
How we decide it is the right call
If your rooms are uneven, your electric use climbed without a change in habits, or the attic dust is showing up on registers, duct leakage is worth measuring before anyone talks about a new AC. We also recommend it after roof work, attic insulation jobs or rodent activity, since ducts take a beating in all three. If we test and the ducts are tight, we say so and look elsewhere. Diagnosis first, repair second, and only what the house actually needs.
Do leaky ducts really change how the house feels?
Yes. Supply leaks dump cooled air into the attic, and return leaks pull hot attic air into the system. Both make the AC run longer while the far bedrooms stay warm. Sealing the worst leaks usually shows up within a day.

Do leaky ducts really change how the house feels?
Yes. Supply leaks dump cooled air into the attic and return leaks pull hot attic air into the system. Both make the AC run longer while far bedrooms stay warm.
How long does a leaky duct diagnosis take?
Most single-system homes take one to two hours, depending on attic access and how much duct is reachable. Two-system houses take longer. We walk you through what we found before we leave.
Can you repair the leaks on the same visit?
Often yes, for accessible joints, boots and small separations. Replacing collapsed runs or resizing a return gets scheduled separately so we bring the right materials and give the work proper time.
How it works
- Step 1
Tell us the symptom
Call or fill in the quote form with what you hear, smell or feel. Warm air, short cycling, a breaker that keeps tripping. Details on your porch help us arrive with the right parts.
- Step 2
We diagnose on site
A technician checks the thermostat, airflow, the indoor coil and blower, then the outdoor unit and electrical side. You get a plain explanation of what failed and why it failed.
- Step 3
You approve the repair
We walk you through the fix and any parts involved before we start. Once you say go, we make the repair and confirm the system is holding temperature before we leave your driveway.

Why homeowners call us
- Built for hard summersWe work on attic air handlers in July heat, undersized returns in older subdivisions, and condensers with hail-flattened fins. Those are everyday jobs across the region, so we know where these systems tend to give out first.
- Air conditioner repair and heating repairOne crew for both seasons. Air conditioning repair when the house won't cool, heater repair and furnace repair when the burners won't stay lit. Same technicians, same records, so nobody starts from scratch in November.
- We explain the failureYou hear which component failed and what it was doing to the rest of the system. If a repair is a short-term patch on an aging unit, we say so and let you decide the timing.
- Respect for the houseDrop cloths, shoe covers, and the attic hatch closed the way we found it. We keep the work area clean and we tell you honestly when a problem is airflow or ductwork rather than the equipment itself.
- All major brands, gas & electricOne independent crew for Carrier, Trane, Lennox, Goodman, Rheem and more.
- Straight answersIf a system is not worth repairing, we say so, often right on the phone.
